ABC News to Mark Breast Cancer Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a Special Series “The Fight Against Breast Cancer”

ABC News will mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a special series "The Fight Against Breast Cancer." As part of a special division-wide series, ABCNEWS.com is offering a unique approach to medical information that puts video of the best "second opinion" in the country right at the user's fingertips. ABCNEWS.com has identified the leading experts in breast cancer – from 41 institutions that are both the top rated cancer centers and 65 leaders in cancer research -- and has compiled questions and over 350 video answers. And with every video response of an expert there will also be a text version available. The broadcast coverage of "The Fight Against Breast Cancer" begins on Sunday, October 7. Reports will be featured on "Good Morning America Weekend," "World News Sunday," "Good Morning America," "World News with Charles Gibson," and "Nightline." Dr. Tim Johnson will report on the latest breast cancer medical advancements for NewsOne, the network's affiliate news service's daily "Medical Minutes." Additionally, ABC News Radio will focus on the topic on its various broadcasts throughout the month.

On Sunday, October 7, "Good Morning America Weekend" will take a look at celebrity breast cancer benefit event called "Frosted Pink," featuring pop music and ice skating performances. On Tuesday, October 9, "World News with Charles Gibson" will report on the increasing use of genetic tests used to identify women at high risk for breast cancer -- and what kinds of choices women face if they test positive. And on Wednesday, October 10, "World News" will explore how genetic tests can be used to determine personalized treatment methods for breast cancer patients.

A special discussion on "Good Morning America Now" called "The Girlfriend's Guide to Breast Cancer - Brought to you by the Women of ABC News" will be broadcast exclusively on ABC News Now on Thursday, October 11. ABC News Political Commentator Cokie Roberts, "Good Morning America" Anchor Robin Roberts, Correspondents Laura Marquez and Betsy Stark, Senior Vice President Amy Entelis, ABC NewsOne Executive Director Fiona Conway and ABC News Now Executive Producer Jessica Guff, will discuss lessons learned from their experiences with breast cancer. The program will also be available on demand on ABCNEWS.com.

ABC News Now's "Healthy Life" anchored by Dr. Tim Johnson will dedicate some of its October broadcasts to breast cancer and ABC News' "Talk Back" will have women who have survived breast cancer share their stories.
